I began by selecting ten colors from a 36-color oil pastel box, numbering them from 0 to 9. Then, I wrote down the digits of pi on paper and created simple strokes on the canvas—short vertical lines, also the number 1, which symbolizes the beginning of all things in ancient Chinese philosophy. However, every time I draw, I follow each number of pi, select the color represented by the number, and draw the next stroke until the entire canvas is filled. The objective is to depict transformation through repetitive actions.
After that, I invited 22 artists to choose ten colors that best described me. Everyone chose different colors and arranged them in a unique order. This meant that each time I drew, I had to adapt to the differences. Each artist's selection of colors not only provided a unique description of me as an artist but also created a different profile of each artist. This resulted in one unique abstract portrait of the first 995,818 digits of pi.
- Conducted research and drew during a residency in Zhang Jiakou, China, made possible by the invitation of the Artist Residence Program of Forlong.
